Simon Jordan thinks Raheem Sterling has been “bang average” for Chelsea this season.
Raheem Sterling has once again been left out of the England squad, a decision that not everyone agrees with, but Simon Jordan understands Gareth Southgate’s thought process.
The former Crystal Palace chairman was discussing the Chelsea winger in his column for the Daily Mail.
While Sterling has not been called up for England, two of his Chelsea team-mates have, Cole Palmer and Conor Gallagher.
What exactly has Simon Jordan said about Raheem Sterling?
Jordan has made it clear that he has not been too impressed with Sterling.
Writing for the Daily Mail, the talkSPORT regular said: “Curiously, and for reasons that quite frankly evade me, eyebrows have been raised over Raheem Sterling’s continued omission from the England squad.
“But why? He’s been pretty bang average for Chelsea. OK, he’s had a few decent games in recent weeks but I haven’t seen a series of hugely impressive performances from him that mean he demands inclusion.”

Has Raheem Sterling really been bang average this season?
That is quite harsh, to say the least. We think Sterling has actually been one of Chelsea’s best players, perhaps even the best.
The 28-year-old scored in the 4-4 draw with Manchester City last Sunday and provided an assist in the 4-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur the match prior to that crazy game at Stamford Bridge.
Only Nicolas Jackson has registered more goals than Sterling this term, while the England international has constantly got at defenders with his direct dribbling.
According to WhoScored, he is currently making 2.4 dribbles per match in the Premier League, which is the highest average in Mauricio Pochettino‘s squad.
Sterling, who cost Chelsea £50m (BBC Sport) after his move from Manchester City last summer, has been performing above a bang average level.
And even if Sterling has not been as good as we are making out, he has still undeniably done better than the likes of Marcus Rashford and Jack Grealish, who have just one Premier League goal combined this season. It is amazing that Southgate has chosen the Manchester City and Manchester United stars over the Chelsea man.
