‘Slight problem’: Potter confirms Chelsea player who completed 90 minutes on Sunday is a doubt for tomorrow’s game

Graham Potter has confirmed that Chelsea’s Jorginho does have a slight injury and is a doubt to play tomorrow against Manchester City.

The Blues travel to the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night to face Man City in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

It’s interesting to note that the previous eight games between the teams across all competitions have resulted in four wins apiece.

However, you feel Pep Guardiola’s men are going to be fairly strong favourites to overcome Chelsea in midweek.

Jorginho injury

Jorginho, who completed 90 minutes in Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday, could be set to miss this week’s cup tie.

Apparently, the 30-year-old midfielder has a minor foot problem.

“Jorginho, slight problem with his foot. Doubtful for tomorrow,” Potter said in Tuesday’s pre-match press conference.

Jorginho may not have been selected anyway due to potential rotations for a cup match, but it sounds like he won’t be involved now.

The Italy international will get time off over the World Cup period due to his country failing to qualify, so he should have plenty of time to heal up.

It’s unclear right now if the foot issue will keep him out of Saturday’s important Premier League fixture away to Newcastle United.

Jorginho continues to be tidy in the midfield for Chelsea and a solid option for the side. Therefore, his potential absence in the next two games prior to the World Cup break isn’t ideal.

He’s not always the most popular individual with supporters, but he’s the kind of senior figure the team needs while they try to get out of a sticky patch.

Sport claims that Barcelona and AC Milan are in pole position to sign Jorginho on a free transfer next summer when his Chelsea deal expires.

For now, the Blues need the deep-lying playmaker.
