Chelsea’s miserable season continued on Wednesday night at Stamford Bridge, losing 2-0 at home to rivals Brentford.

The Blues suffered defeat in front of their own fans in the Premier League, with Cesar Azpilicueta’s own goal and Bryan Mbeumo’s strike earning Brentford three points.

Chelsea have now lost five consecutive matches across all competitions. It highlights the horrific return to the club for caretaker boss Frank Lampard.

In addition, Chelsea have now scored one goal in the previous seven games.

Mykhailo Mudryk rare spark on another horror night

Some Chelsea fans on Twitter do believe that Mykhailo Mudryk offered some kind of light during another really dull evening.

Mudryk, 22, started on the bench against Brentford. Incidentally, it was a bench stacked with attackers as Lampard opted for quite a reserved starting line-up.

The Ukrainian left-winger got 45 minutes from the bench as a half-time substitute, which was enough to earn from praise on social media from supporters.

He slotted into the left of the attack during a system change and there were glimpses from him. We did at least get to see someone try tack on opponents 1v1 with some intent.

Here are some Chelsea fans discussing Mudryk:

Where do we go now?

With six games left this season, Chelsea fans will just be desperate for this to be over.

It’s worth saying we are still one point shy of the magic 40 points in the league, though.

Aside from a small period in the second-half, Chelsea looked very poor tonight and it’s clear they are seriously lacking any kind of end product.

We do think Mudryk shows glimpses whenever he’s on the pitch, so we’d like to see him starting from now until the end of the season.
