Some Chelsea staff were left absolutely dismayed by the decision to get rid of Lewis Hall last month.

That is according to a report from The Telegraph.

They claim that Chelsea’s co-owner Behdad Eghbali held conversations with members the Newcastle United hierarchy in August, which resulted in Lewis Hall completing a move to St James’ Park this window.

The report says the 18-year-old’s exit caused ‘dismay and frustration” around the Chelsea academy.

Apparently, there’s a real anger within the Blues staff that homegrown players are being sold just to help the club’s balance sheet when it comes to transfers.

Hall is an exciting talent to come through Chelsea’s academy system and he really stood out in his 10 first-team appearances.

However, the versatile teenager has gone out on loan, which includes an option to buy for Newcastle.

He’s a quality youngster that is a central midfielder by trade and can cover at left-back, but the Blues deemed him surplus to requirements during this window.

Our concern is that this is a deal we could end up regretting further down the line when you consider his potential.

It’s understandable that the academy have grown angry with the club offloading so many of the players they helped develop. The ownership are making pure profit on the books from their sales, though.

You can add Hall to a long list of Cobham talents that are looking to be a success elsewhere in the Premier League.

In contrast, Reece James and Levi Colwill are a couple of homegrown talents with massive futures at Stamford Bridge. In particular, James is now the permanent club captain.
