Transfer insider Dean Jones claims Chelsea fans might not have to wait long before Mason Mount renews his contract.

Writing for GiveMeSport, Jones reported that, whilst there is still not total clarity over Mount’s current deal, it should be sorted out early in 2023.

The 23-year-old’s contract does not expire for another 18 months, yet Todd Boehly is seemingly eager to ensure the player remains part of the project indefinitely,

In order to keep hold of the academy graduate, Boehly may have to triple his wages as a reward for contributing so much to the club recently.

Mason Mount and his uncertain Chelsea contract

Mount has certainly earned the right to at least ask for a pay rise, considering he is one of the lowest paid members of the first-team.

His £80,00-a-week package is trounced by the likes of Kalidou Koulibaly (£295,000-a-week), Marc Cucurella (£175,000-a-week) and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£160,00-a-week), just to name a few.

Each of the new summer signings were clearly tempted by the sizeable salaries offered to them by Boehly.

Yet, none have quite justified their enormous incomes in comparison to Mount.

He has regularly been a standout performer for Chelsea since his senior debut in 2019.

Lifting the Champions League, Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup, along with reaching numerous finals, should warrant a few extra pennies in the pocket.

Discussions of such have yet to commence between the England international and the board, but Jones ensured supporters this should happen soon.

“He has not yet signed a new Chelsea contract and with that in mind there is some uncertainty about what happens next,” he said.

“Of course, that is slightly strange given he has grown up at the club, yet sources do indicate that this is being worked on and that it will only be a matter of time in the new year before fresh terms are agreed, signed off and announced.”

What a late Christmas present that would be!
