‘Sounds a bit weird’: Paul Merson predicts the winner of Chelsea vs Bournemouth

Paul Merson has predicted Chelsea to lose a seventh straight game when they travel to Bournemouth tomorrow afternoon.

It’s been a terrible time recently for the Blues, who have lost six consecutive games across all competitions since Frank Lampard took charge as caretaker manager last month.

It was more of the same for Chelsea when they were beaten 3-1 away to Arsenal in midweek.

Next, Lampard’s side travels down south to face an in-form Bournemouth side in the Premier League. Gary O’Neil’s side have won four of their last five league matches to turn their season around and move away from relegation danger.

Merson has made his weekly prediction ahead of Chelsea’s match against Bournemouth on Saturday:

“You know what? It sounds a bit weird but I can’t see Chelsea winning this game. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but how can you pick Chelsea? If Bournemouth win, they go above Chelsea. What’s happened at Chelsea is extraordinary and I’ve personally never seen anything like it,” Merson wrote for Sportskeeda.

“The current environment is not good for Frank Lampard and there have been claims that it might affect his career in the long-term, but people will know it’s not all about Frank. Chelsea have other deep-rooted issues and once his stint at the club is done, it all depends on the kind of jobs that become available for Frank.

“Prediction: Bournemouth 2-1 Chelsea.”

We agree that it’s very hard to predict a Chelsea win when you look at the team’s horrendous run of form.

It’s going to end at some point, though, right?

The Chelsea Chronicle has delivered a predicted line-up to face Bournemouth, which includes three changes from the Arsenal defeat.

If Lampard is brave enough to play some of our talented youngsters, maybe we can play with a bit more freedom and try to turn a corner.

We don’t really want to enter the summer months off the back of a gigantic losing steak to finish this season.
