Sources explain why Chelsea called off Tyler Adams deal at the last minute

Chelsea were concerned about how long it would take for Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams to recover from his hamstring injury.

That is according to a report from the Daily Mail.

The Blues recently pulled out of a deal to sign Tyler Adams from Leeds at the very last minute, and one of the outlet’s sources claims it is because they feared that he could be out for up to four months.

Chelsea have been trying to bring new midfielders to the club after losing Mason Mount, N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

However, it now looks like Adams will not be joining Mauricio Pochettino’s side during this transfer window.

Chelsea will still strengthen their midfield

While Chelsea have cooled their interest in Adams, they are still going to sign a midfielder or two before the market shuts in September. They have to after losing so many players in the engine room.

Their main target for the position is Brighton & Hove Albion’s Moises Caicedo. According to journalist Nathan Gissing, the Blues have submitted a £115m bid for the Ecuadorian.

There is also a good chance that Chelsea end up landing Romeo Lavia from Southampton.

As per talkSPORT, they have sent a £55m proposal to the Saints for his signature.

Adams could have been a shrewd addition to Pochettino’s squad. He is a defensive midfielder who would have been able to add some more steel in the middle of the park.

However, if Chelsea go on to land both Caicedo and Lavia, supporters will probably not be losing any sleep over not signing the USA international.

It will now be interesting to see if they can land both players. Should that indeed happen, you suspect that Pochettino will be a very happy manager. One of Chelsea’s weaknesses could quickly become one of their strengths.
