Journalist Lyall Thomas has claimed that recently promoted Southampton are holding an interest in signing one player from Chelsea this summer.

There is a real difficulty for the sides who break into the Premier League to stay there recently, with the three who came up for last season going straight back down again.

The Saints, who lost Romeo Lavia at the start of last season to the Blues, achieved an instant return to the top flight, and now their next moves are going to be crucial.

It has been claimed that they were looking to Stamford Bridge for one of their key signings, and a player they have had on their books in some capacity before.

Thomas took to Twitter to say that Southampton remained interested in signing Armando Broja this summer, however are financially struggling to get the deal done at this stage.

Southampton interested in Armando Broja

He said: “Wolves, Everton, Southampton all retain interest in Armando Broja this summer but currently cannot afford him due to their financial positions. Would need to sell a player in all likelihood to proceed.”

While it was thought he was going to have the chance to impress at Stamford Bridge this season, he ended up spending the second half of the campaign on loan down the road at Fulham.

He hardly saw the pitch here either, meaning Chelsea were entitled to a pretty hefty loan fee.

Chelsea hoping Broja stars at Euro 2024

The striker really made his name at St. Mary’s during a loan spell, with manager at the time Ralph Hasenhuttl describing him as ‘dangerous’.

The Blues are reportedly hoping that the upcoming European Championships would be a good platform for other clubs to be impressed with him.

The intention firmly remains to sell him this summer, and this could come in exchange essentially for Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran, after reports that the Blues were getting closer to completing a deal for him.
