Chelsea have been blessed with some seriously talented South American players in their time at the top.

Even right now, two of the most expensive midfielders in world football, Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez, play their international football outside of Europe.

The future certainly looks bright too. Kendry Paez and Estevao Willian, two of the most promising players in world football, are set to join at the end of this season.

One of the greats from this continent in recent times is undoubtedly Thiago Silva, who left at the expiration of his contract over the summer.

The defender exceeded many expectations as he approached the twilight years of his career, with him proving a crucial member of the side even in his final season under Mauricio Pochettino.

Willian ranked as best South American to play for Chelsea

However, a recent ranking of their best ever players from South America only has the centre-back in third, with GiveMeSport ranking Ramires in second.

Instead, they put former winger Willian in as their best player ever from the continent, with him enjoying an illustrious few years at Stamford Bridge.

The 36-year-old, who now plays for Olympiacos, stayed in the Premier League for a number of years after his Chelsea departure, with him featuring for both Arsenal and Fulham.

Silva wanted Chelsea to resign Willian

Silva himself stated that he tried to convince the club to resign Willian when he left the Emirates, describing him at the time as a ‘special’ player.

While at Fulham, Willian overshadowed the debut of Joao Felix with a goal against his former side, piling more misery on manager at the time Graham Potter.

The impact he had on Chelsea was perhaps overshadowed at the time due to the brilliance of Eden Hazard, who was there for near enough the entire time the Brazilian was.

The Belgian has gone down as a real legend of the club, and maybe a similar treatment will meet Willian when he does retire from the game.
