Rio Ferdinand has paid huge credit to Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy by claiming he’s been “impeccable” for a year now.
Mendy, 29, added winning the Africa Cup of Nations to his growing list of successes at the weekend.
Chelsea’s colossus goalkeeper starred to help Senegal beat Egypt in Sunday’s dramatic cup final, as his country won 4-2 on penalties.
Mendy’s international glory comes so soon after he won the Champions League last May with the Blues.
The brilliant shot-stopper has enjoyed a meteoric rise in the game during the past couple of years, so many are now considering him the very best keeper around. Senegal teammate Kalidou Koulibaly is one who rates him as the world’s elite goalkeeper.
Pundit and Premier League legend Ferdinand has raved about Mendy:
“If I was picking a goalkeeper right now in the world, I think my top three keepers I would pick, and maybe people say you’re bias because of the Premier League, but it would be Mendy, Ederson, and on form right now [David] De Gea,” Ferdinand said.
“Mendy stands out for me, especially in this last year he’s been impeccable.”

Stunning Chelsea bargain
For £22million, Mendy is one of Chelsea’s greatest transfer successes in recent times.
A lot of Blues fans didn’t know what to expect when he joined from French side Rennes in 2020, but it turns out they now have arguably the greatest goalkeeper in the world.
He’s absolutely superb when it comes to shot-stopping, albeit the most critical supporter would like him to be a tad better with the ball at his feet.
The confidence it breathes into any defence playing in front of him is extremely noticeable.
His success for club and country during the past 12 months means he deserves every bit of praise thrown his way, too.
Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has done an admirable job holding the fort at Stamford Bridge while teammate Mendy has been away, but the latter’s return only strengthens the XI.
