Pat Nevin has described Chelsea’s Mason Mount as the “star of the show” in his side’s win against Wolves on Saturday afternoon.

Graham Potter’s Chelsea recorded a third consecutive win across all competitions by beating Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-0 this weekend.

Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic and Armando Broja were all on the scoresheet during a dominant victory for the Blues.

Up next, the London club will play three matches in a row away from home. There’s a trip to Italy next week to face AC Milan again in the Champions League, before back-to-back league games against Aston Villa and Brentford.

Mason Mount against Wolves

BBC pundit Nevin was left blown away by the influence of 23-year-old Mount against Wolves.

Chelsea’s attacking midfielder was at the heart of his team’s play with plenty of neat touches. Also, he set up two goals.

The England international put in a great cross for Havertz’s opening goal. He produced a clever through ball to assist Pulisic’s goal, too.

“Mason Mount is having a really good game. A couple of balls that he has played, you are thinking ‘did you really mean that?’ They have been superb. There’s a player England can look at,” Nevin told BBC Radio 5 Live (3:41pm, 8 October).

He added (3:50pm): “Mason Mount has been the star of the show today. He chased the ball down, got it back in play. A lovely header by Kai Havertz at the back post but super play from Mount.”

He’s back

Mount is now looking back to somewhere near his sharpest, which is bad news for upcoming opponents.

Potter is the latest manager that appears to have taken a shine to him, starting him in all four of his game in charge so far.

Joe Cole said during the recent international break that Mount looked angry with his performances on the pitch, which is perhaps a sign that he’s not been happy with his levels at the start of the season.

However, the performance against Wolves should be another boost to his confidence.
