Ian Wright has claimed on ‘The Kelly and Wrighty Show’ that football fans are beginning to see the best of Ruben Loftus-Cheek at Chelsea.

The 26-year-old has been awarded a lot of minutes by Graham Potter since he came in, with him being one of the players who has benefitted most from a new man in charge.

Minutes were at a premium for Lotfus-Cheek under Thomas Tuchel, who certainly had his strong favourites in terms of midfielders.

The stubbornness on a particular formation often saw the Englishman playing in a position he was not as confident in. Conor Gallagher was meeting a similar fate earlier this campaign.

However, with a more recognised box-to-box role evident in Potter’s system, Loftus-Cheek has been able to excel in midfield.

Wright praises Loftus-Cheek

Wright has claimed that a sustained run of minutes has certainly helped the England international, with him able to finally show more of the talent fans had been promised for years.

He said: “Seeing Ruben Loftus-Cheek get a sustained run, you are starting to see the qualities he brings. Kovacic is fantastic anyway.

“Once they get that number nine thing sorted, you can feel that something is happening at Chelsea and it’s working for them.”

Injuries in midfield have been fairly common for the Blues this season. N’golo Kante has been handed a fresh setback in his recovery, while Mateo Kovacic has certainly taken time to shake off the full effects of his early season injury.

There may be a need for Potter to rely on the 26-year-old’s versatility in the coming weeks. With Reece James’ injury, the club are desperate to replace his talents as strongly as possible, and trying Raheem Sterling there didn’t work last weekend.

With his marauding attacking talents, it could be Loftus-Cheek who is trusted with the responsibility.
