Steve Nicol thinks the Chelsea fanbase are creating a “strange atmosphere” around Stamford Bridge at their home games.
It’s been very dull in recent months for Chelsea fans at the Bridge, watching the side win just one of their last nine home fixtures in the Premier League.
We’ve seen in the past what a fortress the ground can be, but right now any visiting side comes to West London full of confidence they can get a result. Aston Villa are likely to be the same when they arrive this Sunday afternoon, too.

ESPN pundit Nicol has picked up on a strange mood around the club when they play at home.
In fairness, he’s pinning the blame onto the players for their lack of spark on the pitch, which is making for a subdued atmosphere.
“If you’re a Chelsea fan, you’re going to a game apprehensive. You’re not going excited and ready to burst your lungs and get behind your team. You’re worried. You’re actually on the edge of your seat for the wrong reasons,” Nicol told ESPN.
“I think that’s what makes it such a strange atmosphere because nobody knows what they’re going to get, so they find it hard to get behind the team. Also, the team is not doing anything to get them going either.
“You’ve got a stalemate with both the players and the fans… Fans are not giving support, players are not giving any performances. You’ve got a bit of a stalemate at Stamford Bridge.”

We’re certainly not going to fire any criticism towards any Chelsea fan that spends their money to go support the team at home.
Yes, there’s a demoralising feel whenever this team goes a goal behind. The lack of goals throughout the squad suggest it’s very unlikely they’ll mount a comback.
However, hopeful Blues supporters file into the Bridge every home fixture and the place is waiting to explode with just a couple of positive reul.
