Ian Wright has labelled rumours of Frank Lampard returning to Chelsea as “strange”.
The hot speculation in the press is that Frank Lampard, 44, is coming back to Chelsea and taking charge as manager on a temporary basis.
Journalist Matt Law has claimed on Twitter that Lampard will be back at Chelsea on Thursday and overseeing his first training session as the caretaker boss.
The Blues are certainly giving themselves extra time to find their next long-term manager to succeed Graham Potter.
They’re handing over the reigns on a short-term basis to an individual who knows the club inside out.

Pundit Ian Wright has suggested that Chelsea are offering Lampard’s managerial career a lifeline.
“For Frank’s sake you are looking at it thinking how is Frank going to get back in it, after everything that has happened to him. For him to get this until the end of the season, maybe he can do something that can show people he has still got what it takes. But it is strange,” Wright told Optus Sport.
Despite helping to keep Everton in the Premier League last season, Lampard was sacked during this campaign with the Merseyside club in the thick of yet another relegation battle. Since then, Sean Dyche has done a decent job as a replacement.
In addition, Lampard’s first spell as the Chelsea manager ended up with his dismissal in 2021 under the previous ownership.
We agree that a strong two months as the caretaker boss at Stamford Bridge could go someway to rebuilding his image and chances of future roles elsewhere.

Let’s see what this wild season has in store for Chelsea during its final couple of months.
It would be great to see the Blues string a run of Premier League results together under Lampard, with the side currently in the bottom half of the table.
All eyes are on the Champions League competition, though.
It doesn’t get much harder than a European knockout tie against Real Madrid. Incidentally, Madrid thrashed rivals Barcelona 4-0 last night in a Copa del Rey semi-final.
Chelsea and Madrid lock horns in the quarter-finals of the Champions League during two legs this month.
