‘Super sharp’: Tuchel says one Chelsea player really impressed him on Sunday, despite only playing for 15 minutes

Chelsea’s boss Thomas Tuchel has singled out Jorginho for praise after his cameo performance on Sunday in the Carabao Cup final.

Jorginho, 30, came on for the second half of extra time during the League Cup final loss against Liverpool.

The Blues were eventually beaten on penalties in cruel fashion, but they looked the most likely side to win the game during extra time.

Jorginho, who’s only started one of the last four Chelsea games, has been kept out of the spotlight recently.

Interestingly, Tuchel recently said the central midfielder has been “mentally tired”. He may be a lot more encouraged now after hearing the manager’s latest comments about him, though.

Tuchel praised the Italy international for his 15 minutes of action on the weekend as he freshened up the midfield. Also, the specialist penalty taker scored his spot-kick.

“The players never like it, and the big players they absolutely hate it, if sometimes they are out and sometimes the coach takes the decision to rest them, but look how sharp Jorgi looked. It was only 15 minutes but he looked super sharp,” Tuchel said.

Jorginho should thrive for Chelsea tonight

Hopefully, Jorginho’s recalled to the starting line-up tonight for the FA Cup fifth round tie away to Luton Town.

The Blues are coming up against a Championship opposition in great form, but they’re likely to dominate the ball and proceedings.

It’s the type of match where pass master Jorginho should dictate from a deeper midfield position and boss proceedings like on so many times in the past.

Tuchel’s not got many things wrong at Stamford Bridge when it comes to his man-management, so expect a fresher Jorginho to return after a mini break.

It’s vital the manager can continue rotate between Jorginho, N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic in the centre of the park.
