Chelsea have a lot of England internationals in their squad right now, including Conor Gallagher.

Conor Gallagher, Reece James, Ben Chilwell, Cole Palmer and Levi Colwill have all played for the England senior team.

And Gallagher, speaking to the Three Lions’ official website, has backed James to have a big career with his country.

James missed the World Cup in 2022 because of injury and is in danger of being left at home for this year’s Euros after undergoing hamstring surgery. But still 24 with 16 caps, there is time for him to fulfil his teammate’s prophecy.

Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli recently named the Chelsea captain as his toughest ever opponent.

Gallagher is expecting big things from James on the international stage.

After naming the right-back in his favourite England XI, the 23-year-old said: “He’s going to have a great England career, I’m sure of it. Reece is a top player. He’s another one I grew up with at Chelsea, and we’re good mates.”

Reece James needs to stay fit

James needs to overcome all of these injury problems if he is to make a real impact for England.

He has already missed one big tournament and could be absent for another one. Hopefully that is not the case and the operation the defender recently underwent has solved his hamstring issues.

England are not short of options in the right-back position and James missing games because of injuries could make Gareth Southgate quickly forget about him.

When James was fit, though, he was getting the nod over Trent Alexander-Arnold, for example, showing that Southgate does appreciate his quality. Now it is just about remaining fit so the England boss can actually use it, but that is easier said than done.
