Ian Wright issued a warning to Chelsea that they should think about swapping Timo Werner if his form doesn’t improve, speaking on Premier League Productions.
Werner’s struggles have been one of the defining moments in the Blues topsy turvy campaign.
He is on course for his worst scoring season since 2015/16, where he was a teenager trying to establish himself at Stuttgart.
One goal in his last 19 Premier League appearances is a dismal return for a striker Chelsea forked out £45m (Sky Sports) to sign.
Add to that his £170,00-a-week wage (Spotrac), the German international is certainly not paying off his weight in goals.
And Wright believes that if Werner doesn’t buck up his ideas, then the Blues should seriously contemplate using him as part of a transfer deal for a better player.
The former Arsenal striker said: “For me, I’d keep (Kai) Havertz. But if it carries on going with Werner and you can do a swap deal with someone else, at some stage they (Chelsea) have to get the goalscoring situation right.
“They have got it right defensively. They’ve got it right in front of the defence.
“At some stage, they will have to make that call on the centre-forward.”

It is no secret that Chelsea want to bring in Erling Haaland whenever possible to sort out their centre-forward deficiencies.
But they may need to shift a few pawns around before they can land the Norwegian king.
Offering Werner as part of a trade off would be surprising to say the least.
His career at Stamford Bridge hasn’t even reached the 12-month mark.
Plus, for the amount of money used to buy him, the Blues board will want a return on their investment.
However, landing Haaland would be the ultimate prize, so no means of securing him should be ruled out.
