Trevor Sinclair claims Timo Werner will need to take a drop in wages in order to complete a move away from Chelsea.

As it stands, Werner’s training with the Blues on their pre-season trip of the United States and is preparing for his third campaign at Stamford Bridge.

However, the 26-year-old made some intriguing comments this week to leave supporters debating his future.

The German attacker admitted he wants to play more at Chelsea, adding he would be happy to play anywhere to boost his chances of playing for his country.

Timo Werner wages

TalkSPORT pundit Sinclair suggests the Chelsea forward will need to take a financial hit if he exits West London. Incidentally, he’s currently on a mega £272,000-a-week salary.

Sinclair reckons the speedster’s future is going to depend on what the Blues do with their transfer incomings, though.

“He’s got to take a drop in wages if he wants to play [elsewhere], and if he wants to force his way into that Germany squad [for the World Cup],” he told talkSPORT.

“I don’t think he’ll be moving anywhere if Chelsea don’t get another No.9 in.”

Blues headache

There may not be a player in the current Chelsea squad that confuses your brain quite like Werner.

Of course, there’s a lot to love about the attacker with his pace, movement and work rate for the team. His record of 93 goals in 158 RB Leipzig appearances from earlier in his career is a statistic that many always look back towards, too.

However, he needs to be far more clinical and consistent to nail down a spot in Thomas Tuchel’s starting line-up.

He’s got the individual game to have a big 2022/23 campaign, but it’s slightly worrying hearing comments about his future.
