Antonio Rudiger explained that he had been conversing with the Chelsea chain of command regarding a new deal.
Speaking in yesterday’s press conference ahead of the UEFA Super Cup final, Rudiger was asked about his current contract situation.
It has been one of the ongoing sagas of the year which is still yet to be resolved.
The German defender’s agreement runs out next June. Although there have been whispers of an extension, nothing has materialised.
Elongating the centre-back’s stay seems only right considering how well he performed in the second half of last season.
Rudiger was arguably Chelsea’s best performer following Thomas Tuchel’s arrival in January.
He was certainly pivotal to the defensive overhaul that aided the Blues’ top-four Premier League finish and Champions League victory.

And finally, the 28-year-old said that he had been discussing the idea of earning a fresh treaty.
“I said before that I wanted to concentrate on the Euros and when I come back, talks can start,” Rudiger said
“That’s what has happened. Talks have begun so we will see what time brings.”
Marina Granovskaia could round up a few Chelsea players and dish them out new deals in unison.
Along with Rudiger, Cesar Azpilicueta and Andreas Christensen have also entered into the final 12 months of their contract.
All three played a massive part toward Tuchel’s transformation in 2020/21, who himself has already been handed an extension.
With still a few days of the transfer window left open, the Blues cannot afford to let any of their centre-half centurions slip away so easily.
Especially if they are not planning to bring anybody else in, as the Jules Kounde bid seems to have stalled.
