Chelsea’s Cole Palmer continues to be the centre of attention because of his brilliance on the football pitch.
In particular, there’s many pundits and fans discussing whether or not Cole Palmer is already a world-class player.
Enzo Maresca is working with a very young Blues squad that has been assembled with the future in mind, but he’s got a superstar in his ranks in the shape of Palmer.
The 22-year-old attacker has started his second season at Stamford Bridge in remarkable form. He’s already contributed six goals and five assists from the opening seven Premier League games.
Speaking this week via talkSPORT, Ally McCoist argued Chelsea’s Palmer isn’t world-class yet. We’d suspect that the Blues fanbase largely disagrees with him, though.

Is Cole Palmer world-class?
TalkSPORT pundit Darren Ambrose has argued that Palmer needs the longevity before he can be in the discussion as a world-class player.
When discussing Chelsea’s Palmer, Ambrose told talkSPORT: “He’s a sensational player and he’s going to be. He’s got massive potential. But to become world-class you have to do it for longer than one season, one and a half seasons… That’s what Cole Palmer’s on at the moment, world-class form. But that doesn’t make you world-class.”
Cole Palmer is still at the start of his career
The way Palmer strolls about the football pitch and sometimes single-handedly drags Chelsea to results makes it look like he’s been shining in the Premier League for years. However, it’s easy to overlook the fact that the English youngster is still relatively inexperienced and still learning the game.
Here is a look at Palmer’s career record in senior football to date:
| Team | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| Chelsea | 54 | 31 | 20 |
| Manchester City | 41 | 6 | 2 |
| England | 9 | 2 | 1 |
For context, Bukayo Saka has played 278 games combined across Arsenal’s first team and England’s senior team.
Palmer has had a slightly slower and more patient rise to the top, but he’s now here mixing it with the very best around. We can’t wait to see where he’s at in a couple more seasons.
