Darren Bent believes Conor Gallagher has really struggled with stepping into the Chelsea first-team squad this season.
Conor Gallagher, who’s been on Chelsea’s books since a boy, is an academy graduate that was bumped into the senior group this campaign.
The 23-year-old midfielder earned his stripes during some successful spells out on loan, mainly at Crystal Palace in the 2021/22 season.
He’s been part of the Blues squad and made 34 appearances so far this season. It’s worth pointing out he’s only completed the full 90 minutes on five occasions, though.

TalkSPORT pundit Bent has been fairly harsh with criticism on Gallagher:
“I really liked Conor Gallagher at Crystal Palace, but since he’s got to Chelsea, it hasn’t worked for him. He almost looks like a fish out of water at that level,” Bent told talkSPORT.
Even if Gallagher does receive criticism from some quarters, he’s still playing for both Chelsea and the England senior team.
We agree he’s not been at his dazzling best this season. However, it must be very hard for him to gain some momentum when he’s constantly in and out of the side during different managers.

Chelsea are still working out the best role for the England international, who is someone we do view as a genuine goalscoring midfielder.
It’s easy to see why managers are drawn towards his incredible work rate and energy. It’s will only get you so far, though.
We’ve seen enough from him to suggest he does get an opportunity in the squad next season under the next permanent manager.
The Independent claimed last week that Liverpool are interested in signing Gallagher during the summer transfer window. But we think any incoming offers should be ignored for now.
