TalkSPORT pundit Carlton Cole says Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling has been performing so much better so far this season.

There’s been a huge amount of changes at Stamford Bridge during the past few months, including in the manager’s dugout.

We’ve certainly noticed a small positive shift since Mauricio Pochettino joined as the Blues head coach this summer, but four points in the opening four Premier League games highlights the need for big improvement still.

Certainly, Raheem Sterling has stood out for all the right reasons with his performances at the start of the campaign.

The 28-year-old Blues winger was omitted from the England squad for the current international break, though.

Carlton Cole is pretty shocked that Sterling isn’t away with England right now because of his excellent form lately.

When discussing Sterling, Cole told talkSPORT: “He wasn’t playing well [last season]. He comes back and looks invigorated. He looks really, really good in pre-season, then transfers that into the start of the season. When the first [England] squad comes about, he doesn’t get picked. I don’t get it.”

Chelsea fans will hope Sterling continues his bright start after the international break.

There’s a run of league games against Bournemouth, Aston Villa, Fulham and Burnley before the October internationals. On paper, it looks a great opportunity for Sterling to kick on.

Rio Ferdinand recently said that he’s seen a positive change in Sterling’s physicality at the start of the new season, as quoted by FIVE’s YouTube channel.

We fully expect him to force his way back into Gareth Southgate’s England group if he continues this way domestically. After all, he’s a veteran at the international level with 82 senior caps.
