Darren Ambrose thinks West Ham’s James Ward-Prowse should definitely be picked by England ahead of Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher.

Conor Gallagher, who’s started every Chelsea game this season, is currently away on international duty with the Three Lions.

He earned his eighth senior England cap over the weekend with a late cameo performance in the 1-1 Ukraine draw.

The 23-year-old midfielder continues to get minutes and chance under Gareth Southgate despite the vast array of talent at the England manager’s disposal.

In contrast, West Ham midfielder James Ward-Prowse isn’t even part of the latest England camp.

Ward-Prowse, 28, has started the new season superbly well following his summer move from Southampton to West Ham. It’s not been enough for another England call-up this time around, though.

TalkSPORT pundit Ambrose is shocked that Ward-Prowse can’t get into the England group ahead of Gallagher, Jordan Henderon or Kalvin Phillips.

“I’m not bashing Jordan Henderson, Kalvin Phillips or Conor Gallagher. He (Ward-Prowse) deserves to be in there in front of those three,” Ambrose told talkSPORT.

For what it’s worth, we would make a straight swap between Ward-Prowse and Manchester City’s Phillips in this current England squad.

Gallagher does frustrate a lot of supporters and pundits with his game, but he clearly does a lot of good things to win over every manager he works with.

The box-to-box midfielder has a superb engine and is great at carrying out instructions. We would love to see more from him when it comes to the final ball, though.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano reported on X that Gallagher was never close to joining Tottenham this summer despite late interest from them.

We hope he can continue to grow and improve moving forward at Stamford Bridge. There’s definitely signs in the past couple of weeks of improvement under Mauricio Pochettino’s guidance.
