TalkSPORT pundit suggests Joao Felix is already better than 23-year-old Chelsea player

Danny Murphy has suggested that Joao Felix is a better player than his new Chelsea teammate Kai Havertz.

Felix, 23, completed his move from Atletico Madrid to Chelsea yesterday on loan until the end of the season.

The Portuguese forward is taking on Premier League football for the first time in his career, with Blues head coach Graham Potter saying he’s physically ready to hit the ground running.

He’ll be looking to add some much-needed firepower to the Chelsea attack.

23-year-old attacker Havertz, who’s got five goals in 24 appearances so far this season, is one of so many in the team that can’t find top form right now.

TalkSPORT pundit Danny Murphy has said he’d edge towards Felix over Havertz when comparing the two.

When discussing Felix’s arrival at Chelsea, Murphy told talkSPORT. “I would have him ahead of [Hakim] Ziyech. I would have him ahead of [Christian] Pulisic. I would probably have him ahead of Havertz, but they are quite similar, so that’s a debate. He will improve their options, but only in wide areas.”

In fairness, Felix and Havertz are two of the sport’s most talented 23-year-olds.

The challenge for Potter is getting both of them performing to their best in the same XI, something that’s proven to be a difficult task with Havertz so far.

Both are most effective when they can get on the ball in-between the lines and cause danger in pockets of space, but Havertz’s recent performances have looked a little uncomfortable in the centre-forward role.

Let’s hope Felix isn’t forced to stick too wide in the Blues system because he needs freedom to express himself.
