Chelsea officially confirmed Reece James as the new club captain on Wednesday.
The Blues announced the news on their official website yesterday that Reece James, who’s just 23, is the new permanent captain at Stamford Bridge.
He’s taken the armband following the summer exit of predecessor Cesar Azpilicueta.
Our guess is James is going to be a very popular selection with supporters due to his deep connection with the club, which started when he joined at the age of six.

There’s been a wave of reaction to the breaking Chelsea news, including from several former players that sound delighted.
Tammy Abraham, Michy Batshuayi and Willian are among the former Blues stars to react to the announcement on Instagram.
Abraham said: “Deserved brother.”
“Blue heart. Deserved bro,” Batshuayi replied.
Willian posted: “Deserved bro.”

It certainly seems fairly unanimous that James is the right man to take the captain’s armband at Chelsea.
We’e now very excited to watch how the 23-year-old right-back grow into the role both on and off the pitch moving forward.

We expect James to be one of the very first names on the team sheet during this new era under Mauricio Pochettino, so he always seemed one of the most likely to wear the armband.
Pochettino described James as a “very important” player for Chelsea during pre-season, as quoted by Football.London, so we’re not shocked by the decision.
We suggest it’ll be very wise for Chelsea’s new skipper to lean on the advice of someone like Thiago Silva while he’s still in the dressing room alongside him.
