TCC View: Three things we anticipate seeing from Chelsea vs Spurs, expect the unexpected

Chelsea prepare to face their toughest test of the Thomas Tuchel era when they travel to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League tonight.

A draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers and victory over Burnley have eased the manager nicely into his new surroundings.

Spurs should offer an altogether different task. Jose Mourinho will want to rid the wrongs his side have been facing lately against their fiercest rivals.

Tuchel meanwhile has an opportunity to truly take his status to another level at Chelsea by conquering in this capital clash.

But what can we expect to see from a game that is usually so unpredictable?

A Tuchel twist

Ironically, what can be anticipated is for Tuchel to make tactical tweaks, which have already left so many people guessing since he arrived in England.

It has almost become rite of passage to expect alterations to Chelsea’s starting line-up under their German coach.

Who will be in from the off is anyone’s guess. What has become clear is that Tuchel enjoys keeping everyone on their toes.

Callum on cloud nine

One player we can safely say will be involved is Callum Hudson-Odoi. He has been a mini-revelation since Tuchel’s takeover and has excelled in his rejuvenated wing back post.

The 20-year-old has earned great reviews thanks to his new position which many believe suit his abilities perfectly.

Admittedly, Hudson-Odoi hasn’t needed to do much defending in the last two fixtures so it will be interesting how he copes against Tottenham’s attackers.

Same but different

Despite mentioning that Spurs are an entirely different prospect to the two teams Chelsea have previously faced, there will be one obvious comparison to make.

Mourinho’s main method this season has been to sit back, soak up pressure and then counter attack through Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son.

Burnley and Wolves don’t have the luxury of Spurs interstellar duo, yet both invited Chelsea to come onto them with varying success.

Kane was confirmed a major doubt for this fixture by Mourinho but it’s doubtful he’ll change the tactics he deployed in the reverse fixture at Stamford Bridge.
