Frank Lebouef thinks the technical performance of Chelsea’s Kai Havertz against Borussia Dortmund was “perfect” this week.

Havertz, who earns £150,000-a-week, showed his best qualities in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The 23-year-old attacker scored from the penalty spot in Chelsea’s victory over Borussia Dortmund, which secured qualification into this season’s Champions League quarter-finals.

He’s come in for plenty of criticism for scoring seven goals in 33 games this season, a below-par tally for someone playing as the central striker in the Blues XI.

However, the German forward helped knit everything together against Dortmund.

Joe Cole described his European performance as “outstanding”.

ESPN pundit Lebouef loved the individual contribution from Havertz in the latest Champions League match.

In particular, he was keen to point out the attacker’s skill and technique.

On top of his goal, Chelsea’s No.29 played with huge confidence by producing flicked passes and seeing a lot of the ball.

“Kai Havertz, fantastic… A great game. He tried a lot, he worked a lot, technically he was perfect,” Leboeuf told ESPN.

Not many people have ever doubted Havertz’s ability with the ball at his feet. The main issue has been with him not scoring enough or fitting into one set position.

However, he looked very effective this week in attack, with teammates Joao Felix and Raheem Sterling supporting him superbly.

It’s going to take a few more similar performances before Havertz wins back the support of the entire fanbase, but he’s proven that there is a top quality performer in there.
