Darren Bent thinks Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic is the kind of striker that could score goals at Chelsea.
Mitrovic, who helped inspire his side to a 2-2 draw against Liverpool on the weekend, kickstarted the new Premier League season with a bang.
The £22million centre-forward netted twice against Liverpool in a performance that saw him torment the opposition defence.
He’s a curious player whose career record in the Championship is staggering, scoring 85 goals in 126 games across spells at Fulham and Newcastle United. In contrast, his Premier League return is only 26 goals in 105 appearances.
The 27-year-old frontman will surely hope this is his season where he can cement his name as a quality top-flight goalscorer.

Mitrovic at Chelsea
TalkSPORT pundit Bent suggests Fulham’s current No.9 has the skillset that would make him a success in Chelsea colours, albeit that would mean crossing over the West London divide.
He mentions Thomas Tuchel’s Blues are in need of a new striker to score their goals, but can’t see Mitrovic leaving Craven Cottage this summer.
“I’ve always said with Mitrovic, if you give him the opportunities and you play to his strengths, he will score goals at any level,” Bent told talkSPORT.
“At the weekend, against arguably the best centre-back on the planet, he gave him the toughest time I’ve seen someone give Virgil van Dijk in a long time.
“Would he fit into Chelsea’s system? I’m not sure. But Chelsea right now just need someone to finish off chances, and that could be him. But I think he’s happy where he is at Fulham.”

Maybe next year
If Mitrovic goes close to the 20-goal mark in the Premier League this season, maybe this conversation should be revisited.
It’s true that Chelsea could really do with signing a new forward before the summer window shuts, but Fulham’s star is not a name they’re yet linked with.
It’s been reported Barcelona forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is someone in Chelsea’s sights, who is a player with a proven track record of scoring a lot in England’s top division.
Tuchel is just crying out for a new No.9 that can link up play effectively and score goals.
