Timo Werner admitted in an interview with Soccer Am that he didn’t want to leave Chelsea because of how much he hated doing his initiation.
Every new signing to a club is inducted by showing off their non-footballing talents.
Singing is the typical choice of entertainment and Werner expressed how painful his performance was.
“I think it was the worst moment in the season for everybody,” said the 25-year-old.
“When I miss in front of goal like against (Real) Madrid, that’s also bad, but it doesn’t compare to this feeling.
“Standing in front of the whole squad, staff, team, everything and everyone knows you’re the stupid guy who sings a song very bad.
“It was terrible. That’s the reason why I don’t want to change clubs again because it’s not the best feeling.”
Werner was one of six summer arrivals to be welcomed into the Blues family.
His £45m (Sky Sports) move from RB Leipzig last year has been indifferent to say the least.
He remains the joint top scorer across all competitions this season with 12 goals.
The German forward has also provided 14 assists, another top tally for Chelsea.
However, he’s only scored twice in the Premier League since November, an indication of his inconsistencies.
Thankfully for Werner, it is highly unlikely he will have to go through another initiation any time soon.
Roman Abramovich spent decent money on the attacker and won’t want to see his investment go to waste.
There’s also a feeling that a full campaign under Thomas Tuchel might change his fortunes.
