'The best teams': Antonio Conte makes claim about Chelsea's attacking play after yesterday's matches

Tottenham boss and ex-Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has made a point about how his former side like to attack.

Conte, 52, is a highly-rated coach that’s fighting a tough battle to lift Spurs to new heights. His side did win yesterday 2-0 away to Brighton in the Premier League, though.

He was speaking in his post-match interview after the win over Brighton about the best teams around that are lethal on the counter-attack.

The Italian manager mentioned Chelsea, along with Liverpool, as elite sides that he always spots scoring goals on the counter.

“Also Liverpool, I see, many times, that they score on the counter-attack, and Chelsea. The best teams, the best teams. You have to try to exploit every situation. If you find a team that stays in their half of the pitch, you have to be good, to have a creative player, to create the superiority, to be/beat the man. And at the same time, when the opponent is attacking, it’s important to have players fast for the counter-attack,” Conte said.

For certain, Chelsea have the ammunition in their squad to hit teams with serious power and directness.

Mateo Kovacic and N’Golo Kante are specialist dribblers that are great breaking the lines with real speed. In addition, you can combine the pace of Blues attackers such as Kai Havertz, Mason Mount, Timo Werner, Romelu Lukaku and Christian Pulisic to counter-attacks.

Current Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is proving his tactical nous to set up his team as very dangerous to play against.

The best example of hitting a side on the counter is the way the Blues won the Champions League final last season against Manchester City.

As the Champions League quarter-finals looms, with the draw taking place tomorrow, Chelsea are a side lots of the big teams will want to avoid due to their threat on the break. The Blues reached the quarter-finals yesterday by winning 2-1 away to Lille.
