The bizarre statistic Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson has for Senegal at international level

Chelsea star Nicolas Jackson currently has a statistic in international football that seems extremely bizarre.

Nicolas Jackson has certainly been a big talking point at Stamford Bridge since he joined the Blues in the summer of 2023 from Villarreal.

At the age of 23, he’s currently the first-choice striker at Chelsea. It’s a huge responsibility for someone who’s only had one year in English football to date.

Jackson received his fair share of criticism throughout his debut season last year, but he still ended up with an eye-catching tally of 17 goals in 44 games across all competitions.

Interestingly, journalist Matt Law recently told the ‘London is Blue’ podcast that Chelsea weren’t convinced Ivan Toney would be a big upgrade on Jackson, which played a part in them not signing him in the summer.

Nicolas Jackson has bizarre statistic in international football

Chelsea’s Jackson is a regular in and around the national squad for African giants Senegal.

The 23-year-old faces plenty of competition for places and isn’t always a nailed-on starter on the international stage, but he’s one of the most exciting young talents for his country. It was great to see him start both of Senegal’s matches during this September international break.

There’s actually a bizarre statistic that Chelsea’s centre-forward does hold in international football, though.

Remarkably, Jackson has now played 15 times for Senegal and scored zero goals.

He’s been a pretty frequent goalscorer at club level in the last couple of years without being prolific, so it’s baffling that he’s got this block in front of goal when representing his nation.

Chelsea frontman must make this season count

Yet again, Jackson finds himself in a position where he’s the only senior striker in Chelsea’s squad.

While last season was a positive for him, now is the time for him to press ahead and prove he’s the long-term solution in the No.9 position. If not, we worry about his place in the starting XI moving forward.

It’s been a decent start to the new campaign for Jackson in Chelsea colours, scoring in two of the opening three league games. Next, the Blues travel to Bournemouth this weekend for the first game back after the international break.

As for his international record, we’re sure he’ll eventually get over that hurdle and score for Senegal. His country faces a double header against Malawi in October in Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
