The one player Chelsea should sign after transfer ban

Chelsea have been linked with a whole host of names in recent months, but there is one man in particular that the club should sign when the transfer ban is lifted: Milan Skriniar.

The Slovakian powerhouse is regarded by many as one of the top defenders Serie A. The ball-playing centre-back has become an integral part of Inter Milan’s defence and is attracting worldwide interest.

The Daily Mail is reporting that Real Madrid are leading the way for his signature, in a deal that could be worth £85 million. Although it will be difficult to compete with the Spanish giants, Skriniar could take this young Chelsea side to the next level.

The Blues have four starting centre-back options. Those being Antonio Rudiger, Fikayo Tomori, Kurt Zouma, and Andreas Christensen. These are solid options but if Chelsea are to reach world-class status once again, players of Skriniar’s magnitude and ability need to be brought in.

Since joining Inter from Sampdoria in 2017, Skriniar has been an ever-present figure in their back line. A tough-tackling, strong ball-playing centre-half who poses a threat from set-pieces marks a complete defender. At just 24-years-old, he will only get better in years to come.

His current contract does not end until 2023, and there is no doubt that Inter will not want him to depart. Former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte will be especially hesitant to let him go to his former club.

The competition for Skriniar’s signature will be fierce. However, the Chelsea hierarchy should put everything into bringing the big Slovakian to Stamford Bridge.
