Jamie Carragher reckons a possible change at the top of Chelsea will end their managerial rollover model.
Writing for the Telegraph, Carragher insisted that a new owner would surely alter the approach that made Roman Abramovich’s reign so successful.
Roman has moved the Blues in the right direction
Abramovich’s tenure as proprietor of the Champions League holders is nearing its conclusion, following his decision to sell the club earlier this week.
If the Russian can find a suitable buyer for the Blues, his 19-year supremacy shall end on a rather strange and somewhat sour note.
Since his 2003 takeover, Chelsea have won countless titles both domestically and globally, establishing themselves a true powerhouse of the sport.
This might not have been possible, of course, had Abramovich not invested so heavily in constructing such a footballing juggernaut.
Alongside buying the best players, he also continuously sourced the top managers to do his bidding.
Thomas Tuchel is the current living proof of how a rapid turnaround in the managerial hot-seat can bring success, something that has worked so well for Chelsea under their departing owner.
However, this revolving door for the dugout might cease to exist if Abramovich’s kingdom is handed over to new powers with new ideas.
“And there is no way it can be business as usual at Stamford Bridge because no club in England has ever thrived doing it their way, hiring and firing managers with such regularity,” suggested Carragher.
“It is incredible to think that Chelsea have employed 14 managers in 19 years, and yet there has been a sustained period of success, major trophies arriving regularly.”
Who could take charge of Chelsea?
At the moment, the most likely candidates to replace Abramovich and his methods are Todd Boehly and Hansjorg Wyss.
The US-Swiss billionaire consortium are reportedly readying an offer that could come in by the end of the week, backed by an unnamed third party.
According to Goal, Boehly and Wyss do want to redefine Chelsea’s business blueprint and not ‘run it as a toy’.
They want to make it more sustainable, hinting towards a more permanent manager on the sidelines.
