Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis has claimed that Victor Osimhen does not actually want to leave the club at this stage.

He told El Chriniguito that there will be no issues in convincing the striker to sign a new deal, after reports that Chelsea were interested in signing him.

The Blues’ interest in Osimhen is long standing, and for good reason following his remarkable campaign last season.

He starred as Napoli won Serie A, finishing as the league’s top scorer by some way.

While this campaign has still got off to a decent start on the pitch, it is off the field where the issues have begun to crop up.

A social media mishap from the team at Napoli seemed to seriously offend the striker, leaving him considering all his options at the club.

Osimhen ‘happy’ at Napoli

This saw more reports crop up saying Chelsea were keen to bringing him in, even if it would likely see them smashing their transfer record for the third transfer window in a row.

Despite all the talk about his future, De Laurentiis has claimed that things are all good for the Nigeria international in their attempts to get him to sign a new deal.

He said: “Osimhen was not even at issue. He’s a top player.

“New deal? Yes, there’s no problem. There are never problems here. All players are happy at Napoli, maybe the probably is just when they leave the club.”

Chelsea’s striker hunt is likely to continue even if Armando Broja and Nicolas Jackson begin to find their feet this season.

Brentford star Ivan Toney is one who is also on the list, with him likely to be on the move when he returns from his ban.
