Kevin De Bruyne is probably the biggest mistake of the decade from Chelsea. Letting him go has proven to be a disastrous decision. He has gone on to become one of the world’s best midfielders at Premier League rivals Manchester City.
The Belgian star made just nine appearances at the London club. After a successful loan spell at Werder Bremen, then Chelsea boss manager Jose Mourinho did not give him the chances he deserved. The Portuguese manager wanted to build his team around Oscar instead and was keen to send De Bruyne back out on loan.

This did not wash well with the midfielder, and he decided to seek a permanent move. He moved to Wolfsburg and within a season was back in the Premier League with Manchester City. Five years later, he is arguably the best player in the league with the title holders.
De Bruyne recently made some comments about the Chelsea loan system and why he decided to make a permanent move. As reported by The Daily Mail, he said: ”Wolfsburg was different because I just wanted a new challenge and not be loaned out because that system is really tough for people. They don’t always understand. When you do a few loan spells and come back to the team you know people are still doubting.

”In my mind, I had played four years in Belgium, a year in Germany, had 160-180 games under my belt plus national team experience, so you’re not thinking like a young boy at 18 anymore who is just happy to get a game. I didn’t get a chance at Chelsea and I decided I needed a new team. Wolfsburg really wanted me.”
Losing De Bruyne is something those at Chelsea will never forget. He is living proof that the Chelsea loan system does not always work.
