Thiago Silva said Frank Lampard’s half-time talk gave Chelsea players confidence, but they still couldn’t make up for a poor display in the first half against Manchester City.
Conceding three quick goals inside the first 36 minutes of the game was a big hit to Chelsea’s confidence on Sunday.
Some feared the worst: a repeat of the embarrassing 6-0 defeat at the Etihad in 2019 under Maurizio Sarri.
Chelsea still left empty-handed in the end, but they were better in the second half.
According to Silva, Lampard’s words in the dressing room at the interval were a big help after a very poor 45 minutes.

“It was a positive message, to go back out there and try to play more,” Silva told Chelsea’s official website.
“He gave confidence to the team after a complicated first half.
“I think we played a better second half and because of that we scored in the last minute.
“If we had done that earlier in the second half it would have been a different match.”

The Brazil international added that Lampard always keeps the team positive but they will still have to bounce back from some poor form.
“Of course it’s a difficult period for us because we are not winning, but it’s necessary to continue working and be prepared for the next match when it arrives,” he explained.
Chelsea will face Morecambe in the FA Cup third round on Sunday before their short trip to Fulham on January 16.
