‘Things are not going as I wish’: Emerson opens up about Chelsea situation

Chelsea defender Emerson has said he feels more “part of the group” on international duty than at Stamford Bridge after a disappointing start to the season.

As things stand, the 26-year-old Italy international is arguably third choice for the left-back position at Chelsea, behind Marcos Alonso and new signing Ben Chilwell.

Emerson has featured just twice this season for the Blues – both in the Carabao Cup – against Barnsley and Tottenham Hotspur. That was despite Chilwell missing the first few games.

A report from Goal said the defender was close to leaving in the summer transfer window but talks with Juventus regarding a loan deal with an option to buy collapsed on deadline day.

Now Frank Lampard is left with an unhappy player at his disposal if Emerson’s comments in a recent interview are anything to go by.

He told reporters after Italy’s goalless draw against Poland on Sunday (via Goal): “When I arrive here [Italy], I change my head.

“I feel important and part of the group.

“At Chelsea, things are not going as I wish in this part of the season. I just have to work.”

Italy boss Roberto Mancini has previously expressed his disappointment about Emerson’s failed summer exit.

“I was hoping Emerson could go to a team where he can play continuously,” the former Manchester City manager told the media last week (via beIN Sports).
