Thomas Tuchel said three Chelsea players, who featured in the 1-0 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday, had some fitness problems prior to the game.

Earlier, Pat Nevin spoke about how he felt N’Golo Kante looked far from his best and not 100 percent fit during the game — and apparently, he was right.

Not only Kante, however, as according to Tuchel, Jorginho, who also started, and Thiago Silva, who had to come on in the first half due to Reece James’ injury, also struggled with fitness issues prior to the game.

“We had an early substitution with Reece and I decided to let Jorgi, Thiago, and N’Golo play, although they had their problems during the week,” he told Chelsea TV after the game.

“NG was a bit ill, Thiago got injured yesterday, Jorgi has suffered a little bit for many days.

“I’m also in it, it was my decision [to play them].

“Now we need everybody and see who’s ready for Wednesday.”

Plenty of fitness problems ahead of Juventus trip

To be fair, Manchester City simply dominated the game that even with these three’s being fully fit, it might not be enough for Chelsea to win the game.

The main concern is now the upcoming Champions League group stage match against Juventus.

Bear in mind, in addition to the aforementioned three players, James, Mason Mount, and Christian Pulisic might also be doubtful for the trip to Turin.

Although, Tuchel previously insisted that Mount only picked up a minor injury problem in the League Cup’s win over Aston Villa, so he can hopefully be back to face Juventus.
