A portion of Chelsea fans on social media optimistically asked Thomas Tuchel to play Billy Gilmour against Brighton & Hove Albion later.

The footballing community has been rocked to its core following recent developments about the new European Super League.

But in the midst of all that is Chelsea’s Premier League tie with Brighton this evening, a fixture that Blues fans were hopeful Gilmour could feature in.

Gilmour is yet to start a league game this season, with pretty much all his minutes saved for the cup competitions.

It hasn’t been easy for the 19-year-old to break up Tuchel’s preferred midfield partnerships.

A combination of N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho has rarely disappointed since the German coach arrived at Stamford Bridge.

However, the recent injury to Kovacic could at least mean a space on the bench for Gilmour.

With everything going on in the sport at the minute, this clash against the Seagulls seems extremely secondary.

Deep down, there could be major ramifications in terms of top flight positions depending on the result.

A win for Chelsea would move them above West Ham United into fourth.

If Brighton manages to claim victory in South West London, they will put a nine-point buffer between them and 18th placed Fulham.
