Timo Werner said he feels welcomed by Chelsea fans after hearing the Stamford Bridge crowd sing his name during the win over Leicester City.
Interestingly, it was actually not the first time that the 25-year-old played in front of fans at Stamford Bridge.
Back in December, Werner also featured in the home win over Leeds United in front of 2,000 Blues fans.
On Tuesday, however, he heard the fans sing his name for the first time. Something that he said had never happened before. Not even when he was scoring goals for fun at RB Leipzig.
“Yes, of course,” Werner told Stadium Astro when asked whether hearing supporters sing his name gives him confidence.
“I never noticed [something like this]. In Germany, we don’t have songs that are about one guy. I think in Germany, it was the other way around, I got a lot of hate.
“So it was really nice for me to hear that the fans like me, and they cheer me and push me, but also the whole team.
“I think the crowd was very good today. They gave us the push to win from the first minute to win this game.
“There you can see how important the supporters can be when they’re in the stadium, not at home in front of TVs.”

Despite his underwhelming goalscoring numbers this season, you would have to admire how resilient Werner is.
He just does not stop trying and getting into dangerous positions.
He had two goals ruled out by VAR in the first half and still won the decisive penalty in the second half.
The first-half decisions would affect most strikers, but not Werner. At full time, he was dancing — because his team won and secured the important three points.
