Chelsea held a discussion about the club’s project with Julian Nagelsmann, who remains the favourite candidate to succeed Graham Potter, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Previously, Romano mentioned that the Chelsea board want to make sure that they get the decision on the new manager 100 percent right, after Potter’s disastrous spell.

At the same time, they are also under pressure to find an individual to lead the team ahead of the important Champions League quarter-final tie against Real Madrid.

It is therefore hardly a surprise that they have already approached some candidates.

Romano suggests that Chelsea discussed the club’s project with Nagelsmann on Tuesday.

“Chelsea want new head coach as soon as possible,” the Italian journalist wrote on Twitter.

“Direct contracts with Julian Nagelsmann also today. He remains the favourite candidate with the club’s project discussed.

“Luis Enrique, appreciated — he’d be keen on the job.

“No direct talks yet with [Mauricio] Pochettino and [Ruben] Amorim at this stage.”

According to an earlier report from the Independent, Chelsea want to speak to up to seven managers before making any decision.

So, this may take a while if, as Romano claimed, Nagelsmann and Enrique have been the only two already in contact with Chelsea.

Chelsea should face no problem if they were to approach Pochettino, who has been out of work since leaving Paris Saint-Germain last July, but Amorim is still tied to Sporting until 30 June.

Similarly, Nagelsmann, while already replaced by Thomas Tuchel at Bayern Munich, is still under contract with the Bundesliga champions.

So, even if Nagelsmann gave the green light to take the job, Chelsea would have to reach an agreement with Bayern, too.
