Chelsea are likely to sell Conor Gallagher if he does not sign a new contract.
That is according to Evening Standard journalist Nizaar Kinsella, who has been speaking on the London Is Blue podcast.
Conor Gallagher has been a key player for Mauricio Pochettino this season, but Kinsella says the Blues’ new policy under Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital means no one will be allowed to reach the end of their contract.
The midfielder’s existing deal expires in 2025, but there is a possibility that he signs a new one. However, if that does not happen soon, it looks like he could be sold.
It is something Pochettino is unlikely to want. The Argentine has started him in all nine of Chelsea’s Premier League games so far this season.
Chelsea’s new policy
Chelsea lost Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen on free transfers last summer, but Kinsella says they will not allow a repeat with Gallagher and the other players who are still on their books.
Discussing the 23-year-old’s situation on the London Is Blue podcast, he said: “If he’s not signed up by next summer and Chelsea still don’t show him that love, he’s going to leave because Chelsea’s policy is don’t let players leave on a free anymore.”
Conor Gallagher deserves a new contract
Gallagher has shown his worth to the team this season. Considering that, we think Chelsea should be looking to extend his contract.
As per WhoScored, the England international is making three tackles per game in the top flight. That is more than any other Chelsea player bar Marc Cucurella.
Someone has to do the dirty work and Gallagher seems to have no problem with being the person to do it.
It remains to be seen, though, if Chelsea will actually put something down on the table for Gallagher to sign. After all, this is a player who they were willing to let go of in the summer.
According to talkSPORT, £50m would have been enough to convince the Blues to sell their midfielder in the last transfer window.
