Chelsea have made opportunistic signings a theme of transfer windows since new owner Todd Boehly took over the club three years ago.

More than one billion pounds has been spent by Boehly and co since they took over at Stamford Bridge, and some of those additions have certainly worked out better than others.

They smashed their transfer record in consecutive windows with the additions of Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo, with both being key players at Stamford Bridge as a result. The pair both found the net in the Conference League final.

The punt taken on Cole Palmer has worked wonders for the Blues, however his addition to the club did stop them pursuing a number of other deals.

One of those was the potential signing of Rayan Cherki. Chelsea had a great chance to sign him in the summer of 2023 and 2024.

Chelsea put a lot of work into signing Cherki, however Mauricio Pochettino preferred to go in another direction and the deal fell to the wayside.

After another brilliant individual campaign, the France international made the decision to move on, with Chelsea again linked with Cherki.

However, the attacker will be joining Manchester City, meaning he will be playing for a direct competitor to the Blues next season.

Chelsea pushing for a new attacker

Despite missing out on Cherki, the Blues are working hard in the transfer window to bring in a new attacker.

Their priority is Jamie Gittens, and they are pushing hard to get him through the door before the window closes on Tuesday ahead of the Club World Cup.

While the club have done their groundwork regarding the signing, he is not the only player in that position they are considering.

It has even been claimed that Chelsea could turn their attention to Alejandro Garnacho should they not complete the signing of Gittens before the 7pm deadline.
