While Blackburn Rovers were not the hardest team Chelsea could have faced in the Carabao Cup last night, Jason Cundy was still impressed by the performance of Enzo Fernandez.
Enzo Fernandez missed Chelsea’s last Premier League game versus Brentford because of a small injury problem, but he was fit enough to start against Jon Dahl Tomasson’s men and did not disappoint.
He helped the Blues to a 2-0 win and came in for praise from Jason Cundy, who was on commentary duty for Chelsea’s official club website (01/11/2023 at 20:29) on the night.

Mauricio Pochettino will now need another good performance from Fernandez in his side’s next game, with the club taking on league leaders Tottenham Hotspur.
Enzo Fernandez top drawer against Blackburn
Fernandez is one of the most expensive midfielders in the world. A good display versus a Championship team is to be expected.
Nevertheless, that did not stop Cundy from praising him while commentating on the game for Chelsea’s official club website. On the 22-year-old, the former defender said: “He’s been brilliant today. He has been top drawer.
“You watch how many times Enzo’s looked and [Nicolas] Jackson’s making runs. It’s no coincidence. Every time Enzo looks up, Jackson’s on the move.”
Enzo Fernandez to start against Tottenham?
Now that he is fit again, Fernandez will be one of the first names on the team sheet when Chelsea travel to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next Monday.
He has been such a key player for the Blues this season, having started all of their Premier League games before the west London derby with Brentford last weekend.

According to WhoScored, the Argentina international is making 71 passes per top-flight match, the third-highest average in Pochettino’s squad, showing what he brings to the team.
Summer signing Cole Palmer has been an important player for Chelsea, with Cundy comparing him to his former Manchester City teammate Bernardo Silva, but it is easy to see that Fernandez is also quite an influential figure at Stamford Bridge at the moment.
