Pat Nevin massively praised Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah for his display in Saturday evening’s 1-1 draw against Manchester United.

The Blues ended up with just a point from their Premier League fixture at Stamford Bridge against Man United, which is actually the most drawn fixture in the division’s history.

Graham Potter’s side thought they had grabbed three points late on when Jorginho converted a penalty in the 87th minute.

However, the visitors equalised in stoppage time with a Casemiro header that goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga was unfortunate not to claw out.

It means Chelsea’s run of five consecutive games without conceding a goal finally came to an end.

Nevin praised Chalobah

Pat Nevin believes that Chalobah was a standout performer on the pitch during a fairly tight game.

The 23-year-old centre-back defended aggressively both on the floor and in the air, proving yet again what a brilliant player he’s maturing into for the club.

“There were a lot of fabulous performances, certainly Trevoh Chalobah. That was a grown-up, mature, absolute top-level performance,” Nevin said.

Chalobah started the game as the right-sided centre-half in a back three, but the change of system in the first-half saw the team shift to a back four.

The Englishman partnered Thiago Silva in the back four and definitely gave Gareth Southgate another reminder of his quality.

Fair result

It’s hugely frustrating that Chelsea couldn’t hold on for maximum points, but on the balance of play it was probably a fair result for both sides.

The opening 35 minutes were a real struggle for the Blues to get a grip on the match, but Potter showed some great in-game management to substitute on Mateo Kovacic to help swing the tide.

For certain, Chelsea looked in more control during the second period before finally getting a breakthrough from the penalty spot.

It looked like a contest between two evenly matched teams, but for now the Blues stay in fourth in the league and a place ahead of today’s opponents.
