Lee Carsley has massively praised Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher for his impact during the international break with England’s Under-21s side.

Carsley, who’s the Young Lions manager, has watched his talented crop of youngsters play twice in the last few days.

England U21s beat Italy 2-0 last Thursday in a friendly. They followed that up last night with a 3-1 win over rivals Germany.

Lee Carsley praised Conor Gallagher

International boss Carsley has given a special mention to Gallagher for his performances in both games and training.

The 22-year-old Chelsea youngster got himself on the scoresheet against Germany with a neat finish from close range, providing great energy in his box-to-box role.

It’s great to hear he’s impressed behind the scenes in training, too.

“It’s testament to Conor with the way he has approached this camp. No sign of any disappointment or problems. He has been really positive, trained really well. His application has been great,” Carsley said.

Gallagher won’t want to be in England’s youth teams after previously earning four senior caps, but it sounds like he’s shown the perfect attitude in this camp.

It’s been a rocky start to the new season since Chelsea decided to promote him to their first team. He’s going to have to show a lot of grit and courage to come through that, and this Under-21 break may have been ideal for him.

Let’s wait and see how Gallagher fits into the plans of Graham Potter, who’s had just one game in charge as Chelsea’s head coach so far.

He rightly forced his way into the main England squad off the back of his success at Palace, but it’s just a shame he’s fallen off on the eve of the World Cup.

He was one of the standouts during this break with the Under-21s, so it’ll be no surprise to him back with the seniors soon.

If the central midfielder wants to make a last-ditch run for the World Cup squad in November, he must get into Potter’s best Chelsea line-up and start recapturing last season’s form.
