Trevoh Chalobah and Ike Ugbo sign new contract and head for loan spells

Chelsea have announced contract extensions for Trevoh Chalobah and Ike Ugbo as the two youngsters head for loan spells in France and Belgium, respectively.

Chalobah spent last season on loan at Championship side Huddersfield Town where he made 36 appearances in the league in midfield and defence.

The 21-year-old has signed a new three-year contract and will join newly-promoted Ligue 1 side FC Lorient for the 2020/21 season.

“Chalobah’s first taste of European football now follows with a move to the French top-flight and newly-promoted FC Lorient, who finished as champions of the curtailed Ligue 2,” Chelsea’s official statement reads.

“Les Merlus kick off the new season at home to Strasbourg at the weekend. Chalobah’s new Chelsea contract commits him to the club until at least 2023.”

While Ugbo who went on loan at Dutch second division side Roda JC where he scored 13 goals in 28 games as a striker will go to Belgium top division side Cercle Brugge.

The 21-year-old will play under a familiar face, Paul Clement, who previously worked as an academy coach and assistant manager to Carlo Ancelotti at Chelsea.

“Ike Ugbo has signed a new contract and today joined Belgian side Cercle Brugge for the 2020/21 campaign,” the official statement reads.

Ugbo has committed to a new two-year deal with Chelsea until 2022.
