Troy Deeney thinks Nicolas Jackson can improve loads at Chelsea
Troy Deeney is super impressed by the performances and impact of Nicolas Jackson at Chelsea recently. However, he’s confident that the 23-year-old Blues striker can still go through plenty more gears.
Deeney told talkSPORT: “I think he’s very good and he’s 23. I think he is growing and learning. Last season he was offside an awful lot. I think that was due to the style of play. There’s still loads he can work on.
“There is still loads he could work on. Would I, at this moment in time see him in a place where he could be Ballon d’Or winner? No, but I get what his teammate (Kalidou Koulibaly) is talking about there, in terms of like believing it is the hardest part and getting after it.”
Kalidou Koulibaly has tipped Chelsea’s Jackson as a potential future Ballon d’Or winner. While that may feel a long way off for the Senegal international right now, it’s quite obvious that his game is improving at a rapid rate.
Nicolas Jackson really improving in second season at Chelsea
Chelsea supporters must be enjoying the journey of Jackson since his arrival at the club from Villarreal in the summer of 2023.
The centre-forward had an interesting debut season with the Blues last year, where his inconsistency in front of goal often overshadowed a lot of his good all-round work.
So far this season, Jackson has looked the complete package as he leads the line for Chelsea ahead of quality teammate Christopher Nkunku.
| Season | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| 2024/25 | 10 | 6 | 3 |
| 2023/24 | 44 | 17 | 6 |
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink agrees Jackson is improving at Chelsea. In fact, he now rates him as one of the top four strikers currently playing in the Premier League.
The signs are that Jackson has all the tools in his game to be the long-term solution in attack at Stamford Bridge, but he’ll have to keep scoring regularly to be the main man.
