Thomas Tuchel admitted that it might be difficult for Chelsea to catch the “very strong” Liverpool side who also strengthened their squad in January.
The away win over Crystal Palace on Saturday means the Blues maintain a seven-point gap with Liverpool who sit second in the Premier League table.
Given the gap with Manchester City, the Premier League title is already an unrealistic target at the moment, but they could still aim for second place.
Tuchel refused to call chasing Liverpool an impossible task but also said Luis Diaz’s arrival might make it even more difficult.

“Unfortunately we don’t play them [Liverpool] again [in the league],” the German said in his post-match press conference.
“They look very strong at the moment. It is what it is, and they got a huge player in the winter to make their squad even stronger.
“We will not give in.
“I will not tell you today that it is impossible to catch them, but there’s no other way than to improve our game, to improve our style, and to win game after game after game, to start winning in consecutive games.
“There’s no need to look to Liverpool or Man City or look behind, we have enough to deal with, we have enough to improve and that’s where we start from.”

Finishing above Liverpool would signify huge progress for Chelsea, considering how consistent Jurgen Klopp’s men have been in the last years alongside Manchester City.
However, most Blues fans would argue that focusing on winning trophies in the cup competitions should take precedence over making a point in the league.
