Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has shared the conversation he had with club owner Roman Abramovich after the Club World Cup final on Saturday.
The Russian billionaire rarely attends Chelsea games these days, except for special occasions. The final at the weekend was one of those special occasions.
It was not exactly an exciting match, and as Tuchel himself described it, it was not “their best football”.
However, in the end, a win is a win, and they secured the club’s first-ever Club World Cup trophy after the disappointing defeat in 2012.
After the game, Tuchel made it clear how important Abramovich has been for the club.
“There is no doubt it’s for him [Abramovich],” the German said in the post-match press conference about the win.
“We met shortly on the pitch after the final — I said congratulations, and he said congratulations.
“I said, ‘It’s for you, it’s your club, and it’s your input passion that made this possible’.
“We are happy to be part of it. Of course, the trophy is for him.”
The Blues will have a few days to celebrate before shifting their attention to next weekend’s Premier League clash against Crystal Palace.
Tuchel’s men are pretty much out of the title race, with league leaders Manchester City being 16 points ahead as it stands, but they will still have to fight to keep their spot in the top four.
